The basic technique of sand casting dates back thousands of years in time. Metal is melted and poured into a mold made of bound sand – an abundant material which is resistant to heat. After the molten metal is cooled, the sand mold is destroyed and a 'casting' is removed.

At Danko Arlington, we have the ability to mold in green or no-bake sand. Our excellent foundry reputation comes from our knowledge of pouring molten metal into the mold cavity. These techniques are called risering and gating and are unique to our company.

After the casting process, the sand molds are shaken away and excess gating and risers are sawed off for re-melting.

The parts are then ground clean with abrasives by experienced, well-trained personnel. A variety of finishes are also achieved by blasting the casting surface with different media including aluminum oxide, glass beads, or shot blast.
