On June 24, 2023, Danko Arlington was honored to be invited by the US Navy Defense Industrial Base (DIB) to witness the commissioning of the USS Carl M. Levin (DDG 120) at nearby Baltimore’s Locust Point Marine Terminal. It was the first US Navy ship to be commissioned in Baltimore in seven years.
Accompanying Danko Arlington personnel was company President John D. Danko’s wife, Captain Janine R. Danko, USN Medical Corps, who is active-duty and stationed at nearby Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
For many years, Danko Arlington has been producing custom aluminum cast components for these Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers including steering, navigation, missiles, guns, torpedoes, fire-control, radar, and even bronze bells. To see up-close the parts cast in our foundry on such an impressive vessel brings goosebumps, not to mention seeing over three hundred crew members in dress whites being piped on board while the band plays patriotic Navy tunes. The ceremony underscored the incredible responsibility for defense contractors to produce the highest quality of hardware and munitions for our warfighters.
The USS Carl Levin’s motto is ‘Tenacious in the fight.’ No doubt, the metal casting we do every day is not only important to our national defense, but to the safety and well-being every sailor on that ship whom we cheered on while they ran up that gang plank risking their lives and ready to fight!
